Training Materials on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD)
Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD) is a concept that has been gaining momentum in climate change policy negotiations both internationally and at the national level in capitals around the world. Yet despite the increasing levels of interest and activity in REDD, there is a great deal of confusion that still surrounds the concept. Stakeholders across the spectrum have differing levels of comprehension about REDD and differing ideas about what REDD is. This confusion is beginning to lead to unrealistic expectations about both the positive and negative impacts of REDD, to opportunistic land speculation by investors, and to naïve assumptions about what it takes to implement a REDD program.
